Sitting out….

January 28, 2011

I had to sit today’s training out due to a back and hip injury – truthfully speaking, the back injury is on the mend, but it has been 5 days now with the hip injury too, with no sign of it getting any better – will manage it until the competition on the 5th, before heading home to the UK on the 7th (25 days of relaxing!)

Freshmans open – Jan 23, 2011

Victors row...

The Triforce chaps....

Thanks for supporting!

All the Triforce guys gave a good showing of themselves at yesterday’s Freshman’s open, held in Asakusa – It was called a Freshman’s tournament, but there were some pretty experienced guys rolling around on the mats out there!

Thanks to all of the guys who gave up their Sunday to come and support the competitors – much appreciated! We can now push on confidentially to the next tournament, which is coming thick and fast – Feb 5th!

Fine tuning

January 21, 2011

Shirakushi san (top) working his arm bar

I got to Triforce today at 10:20 to find Iga sensei warming up, all on his own – thought I might have been in for a valuable man to man lesson, which would have been perfect timing considering the competition which is on Sunday…

As it was, 5 other guys turned up on or about the bell, so we had a good 75 minutes – technique was particularly useful today as we just fine tuned some common mistakes associated with arm bars – hopefully I’ll get myself in that position come Sunday 🙂

Welcome, Edward!

Heading to the first comp of 2011

January 11, 2011

The chaps chilling after training - some more than others....

It’s been a while since I posted on here – well, not quite, only 9 days or so – that’s not to say that I haven’t been training though – tomorrow is the 12th of January, with today being session #6 of 2011 – not a bad pace to say the least! Very happy to welcome Jun san from Triforce Akiba – please come back soon!

Miguel (left) & Hayakawa sensei

Hayakawa sensei focused on Triangle choke escapes today (great, giving guys advice on how to escape the one and only move I can do well 🙂 !) Seriously though, it was really good instruction – as usual, just have to be calm and remember the same when it counts…..

Shinsaka san (bottom) fighting Takeda san

The first two competitions of the year are coming up fast, both Rookie tournaments on the 23rd January and 5th February – for better or worse, I’ll enter both before jetting back to the UK on the 7th to spend some time with my folks – might even see if I can get a competition in over there too 🙂

Dynamite! …and a Happy New Year!

January 1, 2011

Firstly, a Happy new year to everyone! I hope you met your 2010 goals and that you have good luck reaching the same in 2011 🙂 I was lucky to get to go and watch Dynamite 2010 in the Saitama Super Arena last night, the 31st: 16 or so fights of fun – minus Bob “The Beast” Sapp, who decided not to fight last minute due to failing to renegotiate his contract – WTF?? Last minute Nomura san got in touch with me letting me know that he had scored a free ticket and that he would watch it too – how lucky is that?! He also had the 30,000 yen tickets to my 15,000 – meaning a nice view for him – fight of the night for me was Tokoro – happy that he picked up the win!
