It was nice to get a further present after the result in the competition on Saturday: a third belt stripe- a great motivator as we go into the second half of the year- ganbarimashoo!

#bjj Kantou open / master & senior

May 22, 2011

Congrats to all the triforce competitors who fought yesterday at the event- there was a super turnout of competitors, along with a sizeable number o spectators.

Sawada kun continued his winning streak in his division, picking up first place- congrats!

I did ok as well in my weight class, but didn’t make a good impression in the absolute weight class- looking forward to trying that again in the next competition in July!

Half guard

May 18, 2011

Lots of work utilising the half guard today- super easy for the stockier guys in training, but a little tricky for the taller ones- especially the 3rd variation which saw opponents standing – most difficult!

As usual I needed to dive out 10 mins before due to work- would have liked to watch the competition rules fight between Cameron and Miyamoto San- wonder who got the upper hand on that one?!

No gi

May 14, 2011

Had a bit of a look at the no gi class today: I have zero skill at it, but some of the guys looked just as comfortable with the gi as without!

Shio San and I turned up for sparring- and as you can see by the picture below we went fairly hard! It’ll be all worth it come the end of next weeks competition!

Beware May sickness!

May 11, 2011

Somebody told me about “May sickness” δΊ”ζœˆη—… recently- I’m not sure whether just hearing about this phenomenon triggered something with me, but lord it was difficult to motivate myself to get up and get to Triforce this morning!
I was happy to blow the cobwebs out with the regular class though- technique of the day focused on chokes- something I’m looking to add to my game…
Matt also turned up and trained with us after spending time back in the US: nice to see you back buddy!

Hi Cameron!

May 2, 2011

It was nice to meet Cameron today, who will be training with us since coming down from Hokkaido a little while ago- looking forward to training together for a few weeks or so!

Beginner class today got off to a slow start, only three or four of us as start time approached- guys kept filing in though and soon we had a good number of guys during the sparring portion of class:)
